ACORN and the Media

You might have seen Peter Dreier, NHI board member, and the director of the Urban & Environmental Policy Program at Occidental College on Rachel Maddow the other night discussing the coverage of ACORN in the media:

but here’s a report, “Manipulating the Public Agenda: Why ACORN Was in the News, and What the News Got Wrong,” issued by Dreier and Christopher Martin, a journalism professor at the University of Northern Iowa that breaks down in detail the partial MSM coverage of ACORN, including the so-called “October Surprise” leading up to the 2008 elections that tried to conflate President Obama’s community organizing past, his associations with ACORN, right-wing allegations of ACORN impropriety, Wasilla mayors, lipstick, bulldogs…sorry — got caught up reliving a very stressful time there.

Read Dreier’s and Martin’s report.
