You can add Pennsylvania to the list of states to have a voter ID law shelved, at least for now. The decision came after the state's supreme court instructed a judge, who had upheld the state's voter ID law in August, to make sure registered voters had access to IDs prior to the November 6 general election.

While the law will not be fully implemented in time for the election, voters could still be asked for identification, but would not be kept from voting if they appear on the voter rolls. Advocates worry that this could cause some confusion, according to the New York Times, and that the court's decision doesn't actually address concerns with the law, but rather shelves action until after the election.

In the upcoming issue of Shelterforce, slated to ship next week, we look at the work some groups are doing to push back against voter ID laws that, they worry, could prevent low-income and elderly communities from voting.
