Dan Hoffman coined the phrase “employer-assisted housing." In the January/February 1990 issue of Shelterforce, Dan first outlined various ways in which a housing benefit might be offered, as well possible federal policies to support the growth in housing benefit programming. Twenty-eight years later he still believes good employer-assisted housing public policy would further housing opportunity, neighborhood revitalization, smart growth, and create communities that are attractive to the economic sectors that drive modern local and regional economies.
